Jumper Recycled to make a Catbed

I had a lovely, soft, cashmere sweater that was en route to the charity shop, when I remembered seeing a photo of a catbed someone had made from an old jumper, so I decided to do a bit of recycling...

What you need:

An old slash-, crew- or round-neck jumper or long-sleeved top
Something to use as filling - either wadding or old teeshirts, towels, etc
Needle and thread
A spare half hour

How to do it:

1.  Turn the jumper inside out and sew up the neck opening.

2.  Turn the jumper right side out again and sew the ends of the sleeves together, making a hollow tube. (This join will be covered, so don't worry too much about your sewing!)

3.  Roll your filling lightly into a sausage-shape, then feed through the arms from up inside the jumper, finishing with a sausage across the neck. Topstitch the front to the back of the jumper along the bottom of the sausage across to the bottom of the armholes - you should now have the circle of the arms forming a sealed tube as the sides of the catbed.

4.  With the stuffed arm circle laid on top of the body of the jumper, fill the jumper body with your filling, folded to form a comfy cushion that fits inside the circle of the arms.

5.  Wrap the bottom of the jumper up and back over the stuffed arm circle and stitch into place.

6.  Stich the arms to the body underneath to close any openings in the base of the catbed.

7.  See how long it takes for a cat to take up residence... ;-)

Henry: First in, even before it was finished!
Clover: Second in, still in...

@FeralTom joins the #wlf10thBatallion

Our very dear friend @FeralTom (Greebo) joined the #wlf10thBatallion
on 3rd January, 2013.

He was the ripe old age of nearly 17, and had a most wonderful life
at his forever home having been rescued, along with his sister,
@Binky_Cat, from a farm at age 6 months.

@Goblin_Kitty arrived a couple of years ago to keep him fit in his old age,
and will now assume the role of Mancat of the House, having been trained
for the position by Tom himself.

Tom set up and ran the #wlfBrewery, serving his homebrew, Old Feral Tom,
in his Public House, the Cat & Trumpet, frequented by many comrades and friends.
Binky is now taking over the role of Landlady, and will do a sterling job.

Tom will be sadly missed by his family and friends, including
The Old Chap Up The Road, who had a special cushion for his regular visitor, Tom,
and a ready tin of tuna. Tom was that kind of cat.

We hope, once Tom has settled onto his new cloud, he will be able to visit us occasionally to offer words of wisdom or a snork! now and again.

He will forever be watching over Clover, who holds him tightly in her heart.

THERE'S NO ONE QUITE LIKE TOMMO
(to be sung to the tune of 'There's No-One Quite Like Grandma', by St Winifreds School Choir)

Tommo, we love you
Tommo, we do
Though you may be far away
We think of you

There's no one quite like Tommo
And I know you will agree
That he always is a friend to you
And he's a friend to me

Tommo, we love you
Tommo, we do
Tommo, we love you
Tommo, we do

There's no one quite like Tommo
A love we always share
At party time and Christmas too
We know that he'll be there

Tommo, we love you
Tommo, we do
Tommo, we love you
And we know you love us too

Along with many of us, Feral Tom's Staff are great supporters of
St Francis Hospice for Cats, a UK Registered Charity based in Derbyshire,
who care for chronically sick, elderly and terminally ill cats.
Through charitable donations, they provide facilities for their reception

Our Henry...

Introducing our Henry...

Henry was found by our vet outside his clinic in a cardboard box, aged about 6-8 weeks. He took him in and tamed him from a wild feral cat to a cuddly, if a little nervous, kitten. Henry had Cryptorchidism (erm... an undescended testicle...). He has had to have two operations, the last one involving opening up his abdomen, because the testicle was right up inside him.  At the same time, he was castrated and blood tested negative for leukemia.

The vet had asked us at Christmastime if we wanted him and we resisted, thinking he would easily find a home. When we called in last week for Nutmeg's tablets, he was still there... Mr C said 4 months there was too long, we would give him a home! Yippee!

Henry is about 6 months old and is recovering nicely from his operation on Thursday (today is Saturday; he's had an antibiotic injection that lasts for 14 days, a painkilling injection and has dissolvable stitches). Looking at the size of his feet, he's going to be a big boy :-)

He has had a pee and poo in his litter box, which is brilliant, rather than splashin' it all over, and he loves his new wet food, only having had kibble before.

He's met the girls, briefly, and is adopting a non-agressive approach (he's a lover, not a fighter) and we think he will settle in without too much trouble in time. He is finding his way around a proper comfy home for the first time, and is having to learn English, as well as his new name, Henry... He was called Missy Foo at the vet... He looks more of a Henry than a Missy to us! Snork!

The Storm...

They were together in the house...

Just the two of them...

It was a cold, dark, stormy night...

The storm had come quickly and each time the thunder boomed,
he watched her jump...

She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance, and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her from the storm...

Suddenly, with a 'BANG!', the power went out...

She screamed...

He raced to the sofa where she was cowering...

He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms...

He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back...

He was surprised when she didn't resist, but instead clung to him...

The storm raged on...

THEY KNEW IT WAS WRONG...

Their families would never understand...

So consumed were they in their FEAR that they heard no opening of doors...

Just the faint click of a camera...

Many thanks to Good Old Auntie Sylvie in Canada for this one!
